从翻译方向性看翻译中的民族中心主义

翻译是国际文化交流的一种重要方式,在这个文化交流过程中,民族中心主义明显表现在翻译具体操作的诸多方面。其中最突出的是在翻译界颇受关注的异化归化之争。按照Venuti的解释逻辑,归化翻译是民族中心主义在翻译中的表现形式,而异化则与非民族中心主义相联系。但Venuti的论述其实只适合于英美译者对弱势文化的翻译,而作为文化交流的翻译活动从来就不是单向的,如果考虑到翻译的方向性,翻译中的民族中心主义则会出现不同的体现形式。

Ethnocentrism in Translation:From the Perspective of Translational Direction

Translation is an important means of intercultural communication,during which process cultural hegemonism and ethnocentrism in intercultural communication are represented through various forms.One of the most obvious representations is seen in the debate on the translation strategies of "foreignization" and "domestication".In line with Venuti,domesticating translation is regarded as a kind of ethnocentric translation,foreignization non-ethnocentric.However,Venuti's argument is actually only based on translations of the inferior culture made by English translators.As a means of intercultural communication,translation is by no means a one-way activity.When seeing from the perspective of translational direction,ethnocentrism will take various forms of representation.
