A Cognitive Semantic Analysis of English Plural Nouns from the Perspective of Prototype Theory

By using prototype theory,this paper makes a comparative analysis of different meanings between English nouns and their plural forms and presents a view that nouns can be a kind of prototype in which all members can be divided into the central members and the marginal members.It is clear that central members of nouns express the typical characters either in meanings or syntactic structures,while the marginal members have some new different meanings from the central members which are often associated with their central members.
