ESP的历史、现状与前景

专门用途英语(ESP)的产生有其社会背景和理论根基。阐述了自上世纪70年代以来ESP在中国的快速发展,指出在理论上仅仅关注各专业语体的语言层次上的特征是不够的,还应该探讨它们的修辞策略层面; 在实践上也有待完善,应该解决好ESP在高校教育中的定位、教材、师资和教学方法等问题。本研究认为,社会需求是ESP发展的主要驱动力,ESP在中国有广阔的发展前景。

ESP: Past,Present and Future

The advent of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has its social background and theoretical foundation.Though ESP has experienced rapid development in China since 1970s,its theoretical research still remains to be deepened in Chinese universities; more research should be done on the rhetorical strategies of different genres rather than merely on their features at different linguistic levels.In teaching practice,more needs perfecting in terms of positioning of ESP in higher education,teaching materials,teachers training as well as teaching methodology.It is believed that,with social needs as its main driving force,ESP has a promising prospect in China.
