The Process of Familization of Migration in China

China is a transitional and developing country with the largest population and number of farmers in the world, and shows a striking feature of urban-rural dual structure. The major content in China＇s rising modernization is the process of urbanization transformation, urbanization of small and middle-sized city in China should become the basic path selection. Which involves three important issues： concept, people, and institution. Only based on the modernization of concept, people and institution, there will automatically generate the modernization of industry, agriculture, technology and national defense, and thus consistently developing prosperous of both the country and the citizens.

The Process of Familization of Migration in China

Based on clear defi nitions of major concepts and drawing on nationally representative and timely data, this paper depicts the process of familization of migration. Findings suggest that both non-family migration and family migration co-exist, and that members of nuclear family tend to arrive at the place of destination sequentially. However, such national pattern disguises regional differences: it has been discovered that central provinces and inter-prefecture migration are associated with a higher proportion of family migration, a fewer times and shorter time span for all family member to reunion, while in east and west provinces, the pattern is the opposite. The lower proportion of familization of migration in more developed areas may refl ect a higher threshold for family reunion and expensive living cost, preventing family reunion in receiving society, while inadequeate resources in underdeveloped areas discourage migrants to bring in family members to the place of destination.
