The four basic spirits of traditional Chinese culture unity between Heaven and Man, people-oriented, vigorous and promising, harmony and neutralism- have an important impact on Chinese modern diplomacy. The ecological view of ＂unity between Heaven and Man＂ enlightens Chinese environmental diplomacy; the ＂people-oriented＂ view directs Chinese consular protection activities; the ＂vigorous and promising＂ conception encourages China to become a ＂responsible big power ＂; and the ＂harmony and neutralism＂ philosophy are the cultural roots of Hu Jintao~s diplomatic notion---＂building a harmonious world＂.
