从文化空缺词的翻译看文化移植中的“妥协”——从杨译《儒林外史》英译本谈起

翻译不仅是双语交际,更是一种跨文化交流。由于英、汉两种语言文化之间存在的巨大差异,文化空缺词已成为汉语文学作品翻译中一道不容忽视的障碍。如何有效地处理文化空缺词将直接影响到翻译的准确性、译文读者的可接受性及文本的可读性。该文结合杨氏夫妇《儒林外史》的英译本,总结其对文化空缺词妥协性处理的方法,从而进一步证明:恰当合理的使用妥协有利于成功地进行文化移植和跨文化交际。

Compromise in Cultural Transplantion in Translating Cultural Vacant Words

Translation is not only a communication between languages but also intercultural communication activities.Translation of cultural vacant words,which has become an obstacle to the translation of Chinese literal works because of great cultural difference,plays a crucial role in the accuracy of translation,readers'acceptability and textual readability.The author analyzes the translation methods of cultural vacant words in The Scholars translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang.The paper suggests by making the proper use of compromise we can successfully promote cultural transplantation and the intercultural communication.
