Dialectical Thoughts on the Function of Price Competition in the Socialist Market Economy

The present paper analyses the function of the price competition in the socialist market economy and puts forward the view that the competition of price is an effective means of making the law of value work functionally. It breaks the monopoly and urges the enterprises to promote work efficiency. The competition is also a useful channel to form reasonable prices. That apart, the competition of price is the only way to help the industry in China remove the useless enterprises and support the useful ones so as to establish large-scaled economy in China. However, the competition of price has its own demerits, that is, it will lead the market to pursue short term benefits only.
