Changes in Social Form and Literary Transformation--Reflections on the History of Chinese Literature from the Classical to the Modern

The period from the beginning of the 20 th century to the May 4 th period constitutes the historical turn from the classical to the modern. This was the inevitable outcome of China's social form from the agricultural civilization to the industrial civilization. This paper focuses on the great influence of the transformation of social form on the literary content and its external structure in such aspects as readers, communication media, professional writers and the vernacular. With this, the writer comes to the conclusion concerning the stages of the history of Chinese literature.
