祭火习俗是蒙古族流传了千余年的古老习俗,从原始的萨满教到红帽派喇嘛教,再到格鲁派喇嘛教的盛行,祭火习俗原封不动地流传到了今天,至今还在发挥着它的功能,其强大的生命力值得我们去探寻它的源流和内涵,以及在现代语境下它如何适应民众生活,调适自身.本文选取内蒙古东部地区赤峰市为调查点是因为赤峰地处大兴安岭南麓和阴山的中间地带,是中原文化和游牧文化、蒙古文化和汉文化的交界处.习俗上略受汉文化影响,也正经受着现代化的冲击.这也为祭火习俗的变迁提供了客观的研究环境.
