The Role of Guangxi Gentry-merchant in Modernization of Guangxi Economy

During the modernization of Guangxi economy in late Qing Dynasty, gentry-merchant emerged as a remarkable power who improved traditional industrial structure and further developed the range of market activities by reclaiming farmlands and mines, planting forests, establishing modern enterprises and chamber of commerce, investing in infrastructures and contructing railways etc. The gentry-merchant had become an un-neglectable power that impelled the process of modernization of economy in Guangxi.
