Construction of Ecological Thought in Social-historical Context:a Study of Ted Hughes'Nature Poems

Nature was Ted Hughes' playmate in his childhood and he never parted with the companion.The environmental disaster inflicted upon by the Industrial Revolution was his lifelong grief.The worsening natural environment and the double crisis confronting human beings urged him to probe for a way to reestablish a harmonious relation between men and nature and he never retreated.Hughes read extensively and thought deeply,and eventually he found the very root of the two crises,the material crisis and the spiritual crisis endangering the western society,even the whole world,was anthropocentrism.After that he developed his ecological thought and wove it into his nature poems to realize his great promise of deliverance.
