This paper is an attempt to probe into the great impact core-competitiveness of higher institutions makes on the solution of many problems existing in higher educational system,the introduction of the concept of establishing a first class university,and the build-up of the comprehensive national power.The article lists some essential elements: superior disciplines and specialties,effective management adopted in universities,as well as distinctive campus culture.Furthermore,the author advances strategies on how to enhance core-competitiveness of higher institutions,including defining reasonable orientation with distinguished approaches to running a school;working out strategic plans so as to integrate school's resources;raising consciousness on innovation,with innovation in systems as the focus.
