| Abstract: | Rites were regarded as the core of law in ancient China, and the integration of rites and penalties was considered as the most important tradition and feature of the legal system in the ancient time. The process of maturity of ancient legal system is found to be a development from confrontation to integration of rites and penalties. As a result of the integration of the two aspects, the law became a moralized law or a legalized moral. Thus a legal tradition with Chinese characteristics was formed in ancient China. |
