华夷之辨主旨是就华夏族和周边的夷族进行区别,形成于春秋战国时期。秦汉以后,每当中华民族、中华文化遭遇危机之时,华夷之辨就被重新提出和强调。近代中华民族、中华文化遇到了全面危机,夏夷之辨被重新提出和强调。"中华民族"观念是对"华夷之辨"的转型和超越。中华民族的伟大复兴应该在民族主义和世界主义之间走中道。

Differentiating Chinese and Foreigners and Its Transition

The differentiation of Chinese and foreigners began in the Spring-and-Autumn Period and the Period of Warring States. Since the Qin and Han dynasties, this idea was put forward and emphasized whenever a crisis occurred in China. In modern times, it was reafifrmed in criticial times. The idea of the Chinese nation is an evolution and transcendence of the old idea of differentiation. The revival of the Chinese nation requires that a middle path between nationalism and cosmopolititanism.
