李鸿章是洋务运动的核心人物,他毕生致力于洋务事业,积极从西方引进先进的军事装备、生产机器和科学技术。主观上李鸿章只是想引进西方的某些物质文明,增强满清王朝的国家实力,实现自强。但客观上李鸿章毕竟创办了一系列新式近代企业,为中国培养了一批技术人才,为中国近代工业的发展奠定了一些基础。
