Affection, Sexual Love and Lust in Contemporary and Modern Chinese Literature

Depiction of affection,sexual love and lust has been a heated topic among writers and theoreticians. Chinese literature in the 20th century has an abundance of fulfillment in and profound deliberation on this tendency and existing problems thereof. What significance have the writings in the above topics lent to our current literature during the current social and cultural transition? The ultimate destination of literature is a poetic depiction of human life, aiming to promote human spirit, purify human mind and exalt human ideal and morality. The depiction of affection, sexual love and lust concerns not only a selection of topics but also serves as a mirror of history. As a consequence, we hope to, by analyzing this tendency and actual writings of contemporary and modern Chinese authors and reflecting on the history of Chinese literature, investigate into the modernity of Chinese literature related to affection and sexual love, guard against the weakening of literary cravings as a result of lust narration in current cultural contexts. We hope that the papers of this issue can arouse some communication and discussion of composing and theorizing among scholars concerning the exaltation of human ideal and morality.
