| Abstract: | This paper employs three elements of the theory of power discourse put forth by French philosopher Michel Foucault,and carries out a study on Hu Shi's selection of the translated text,The Last Class,and his choice of proper Chinese.It holds that Hu Shi's translation is directed by the combination of external and internal power discourse,as well as the central power discourse that usually emerges at the turning point of history.The theory of power discourse is of assistance in accounting for the translator's autonomy. |
