谈译文风格和翻译文学归属的问题

归化作为译文的一种风格理应享有与异化同等的待遇。翻译的功利性决定了归化和异化一样不可能人为取代。针对不同的文本、受众和服务目标,译者必须采取相宜的风格诠释。极端异化论者的立论主张事实上站不住脚。在翻译文学的归属问题上,谢文(1999)虽有力驳斥了“外国作品”论者的观点,但将之简单界定为民族文学同样不可取。无论译著如何“创造性地背叛”了原著,但就其内容而言,始终只是传达,不是创造。据此,翻译文学不应成为外国文学或民族文学的附庸,不妨单列出来,成为一种独立的文学形式。

On the Styles of Translation and the Status of Translated Literature

As a translating style,naturalization should enjoy the same status as enjoyed by foreignization.The functionalism of translation dictates that beth styles be indispensable.A translator should adopt the appropriate style with a view to the type of the source text,its target recipients and its use.Therefore,the extremist's points of for- eignization do not hold.As regards where the translated literature should belong,Xie(1999)argues against the view that ascribes it to the foreign literature.Nevertheless,his view that it belongs to the national literature is also ill-advised.However innovatively the translated text deviates from the original,it is not creation but interpretation. On this account,the translated literature should neither be labelled as foreign nor national;instead,it should be an independent literary genre.
