Criticize and Uphold--On the Different Destiny of Folk Culture in Revolutionary Historical Novels and in New Historical Novels

Folk culture has different destiny in different political situations. In revolutionary historical novels, the "small tradition"existing among the people was extracted and then replaced by the "big tradition"representing the national ideology. The folk culture which emerged in the revolutionary novels had to be chosen and enlightened by the mainstream ideology. By contrast, the new historical novels emphasize more on the identification and publicity of the original folk culture.
