Japan is a country where modern higher education developed late, and not until the early 20th century was the modern higher education system established there. With post war reforms and the fast development of the high speed growth period, Japan had become, by the end of the 20th century, one of the few powers of higher education. An analysis of the experience and lessons from post war Japanese higher education will not only enrich our knowledge of distinct models of developing higher education but also throw some insight into reforms and the development of higher education in China in the 21st century
