| Abstract: | This paper discusses the features of the beginning of a conversation from the perspectives of conversation analysis and sociolinguistics. First, it describes the social functions and sequences of formulaic language, telephone openings and small talks. Then, it moves to examine their analytical framework. Finally, it focuses on the features and limitations of the static research of the beginning of the conversation, and some suggestions are put forward thereafter. |
