Effect of Contextual Theory on Vocabulary Comprehension in Discourse

Vocabulary,as a vitally important component of English learning,plays a critical role in improving one＇s English. The effect of context in vocabulary comprehension cannot be ignored. In the process of English learning,many people receive less desired effect in vocabulary comprehension because the role of context is overlooked. Under such circumstances,a growing number of linguists come to realize the significance of contextual theories in vocabulary comprehension,especially the guidance and research value of contextual theories. This paper makes a summary of the effects of contextual theories in vocabulary comprehension from the perspective of relevance theory.
