The Cultural Structure of Highway and Its Semiotic Significance

As a cultural symbol, highway has is a complex which has its structure and comprises the material culture, system culture and spiritual culture. Highway culture has the direct symbolic features and relative stability, and it provides a new theory and practice perspective of modem road planning and construction, maintenance, operation, service and management. Symbolic highway culture needs to consider the relationship between culture and highway. In practice, the level of functionality and diversity of the highway culture symbol need to be seriously examined, and the will of the people with the ethnic and regional characteristics be combined, and at the same time the factors of traditional culture into modem civihzation should be integrated in order to realize the human nature characteristic of modem highway.
