正确运用情态动词有利于恰当地表达情感,传递信息和促成交际的成功。文章依据Palmer和易仲良教授对情态动词相别和级第的划分,研究情态动词的语义特征、语用含义和翻译特点;理解和运用情态动词,必须考虑语境因素,才能准确无误地传递原语的思想内容和感情色彩。

Semantic Analyses and Translation Studies of the English Modal Verbs

Proper application of the English modal verbs is beneficial to the appropriate expression of feelings,the transmission of message and facilitation of communication.The present thesis studies the translation method as well as the semantic features and pragmatic implications of the English modals based on the classification of the phase and grade of the English modals by Palmer and Prof.Yi Zhongliang.Meanwhile it points out that we must consider the context in understanding and applying the English modals so as to convey the content of the original language accurately in translation.
