论龟兹石窟研究的重大意义

The Significance of the Research on Qiuci Grottoes

Qiuci Grottoes are the cuhural achievements of Qiuci people and the ancient Xinjiang ethnic groups. Studies of Qiuci Grottoes from historical documents and unearthed cultural relics show that Xinjiang had been included in the jurisdiction of the central government and become an undividable part of China since the set - up of the Western Regions Frontier Command by the Western Hall Dynasty. Studies also show that ancient Xinjiang civilization was created on the basis of the integration of the major Buddhist culture with several other religious cultures. Compared with Buddhist culture, Islamic culture was a late religious culture in ancient Western Regions.
