以论辩竞智为主要特征的＂抬杠＂习俗,是鲁中莱芜地区南下冶村一种集辩论、辩智、游戏、娱乐于一体的传统休闲活动,并在一定程度上代表着村落的独特个性。文章将其视为一种民间口头传统、乡民的生活实践活动,同时结合村落发展的历史、各家族之间的关系及村落社区调整等方面重要内容,分析这一民间口头叙事传统的传承与运作机制,将抬杠置于整体性的村落民俗志中予以理解,强调它在民众生活中的重要地位;同时指出作为当代村民难以割舍的口头叙事,当代新农村建设活动中应该给抬杠一类的另类民间传统以一定的生存空间。
