非英语专业大学生英语作文衔接手段习得模式研究

摘    要:我们利用Halliday&Hasan的语篇衔接理论,连续跟踪调查了非英语专业大学生两年来英语作文衔接手段的习得模式。主要回答了两个问题:(1)在大学英语学习的不同阶段,学生使用衔接手段的总体情况如何?(2)随着英语水平的不断提高,学生对衔接手段的使用有无变化?若有变化,变化的模式是什么?通过统计分析,我们发现非英语专业大学生在英语写作时使用了各类衔接手段,但各类衔接手段的使用频率并不相同,指代、连接和词汇衔接使用频率较高,替代与省略使用较少;本研究还发现各种衔接手段的使用频率呈现不同的习得模式。指代的使用频率呈递减,词汇衔接呈递增,而连接、替代与省略没有形成明显的变化趋势。

Abstract:In the present study, based on Halliday & Hasan's cohesive theory, acquisition pattern of English cohesive devices employed in sample compositions written by Chinese non-English majors is inves tigated successively to explore the following two questions: (1) How do the Chinese non-English majors use English cohesive devices in different learning stages? (2) Are there any changes in using cohesive de vices with the improvement of their English proficiency levels? If there are any, what is the pattern of the changes? By analyzing the related data, we find that non-English majors use all kinds of cohesive devices in their English compositions, but the frequency distributions of various cohesive devices are different. Refer ence, conjunction and lexical cohesion are used frequently in the sample compositions, but substitution and ellipsis are employed less, especially ellipsis. In addition, we also find that the frequency distributions of various cohesive devices present different developmental patterns across the four terms. The frequency of reference displays a decreasing developmental pattern while the frequency of lexical cohesion exhibits an in creasing one, yet the frequencies in using conjunction, substitution and ellipsis do not form a stable tendency.
