Dr Stephen Watton Bushell, an English sinologist who was also a dealer, connoisseur, collector and researcher of Chinese antiquities and porcelains in late 19th and early 20 th century , has been regarded as one of the western pioneers in the study of Chinese art history, especially in the field of Chinese ceramics. During his sojourn in China, he not only devoted himself to the appreciation and collection of antiquities centered on Chinese ceramics under the guidance of the idea of combining practice with literature, but also researched and interpreted the Chinese ceramic art based on his profound knowledge. The rich work of Bushell not only showed the cutting-edge and scientific nature of his research on Chinese ceramics, but also have become an indispensable academic resource for the comprehension and interpretation of Chinese culture.
