Digital Earth and Its Status in Knowledge Economy

Digital earth is a high level combination of the currently existing or evolving theories and technologies and data on all dimensions in terms of system theory. It connects remote sensing technology, geo information system and network technology with social requirements of sustainable development and functions as a fundamental framework for information globalization. Its suggestion and realization of digital earth have very important significance. As it is well known, human society is developing now at an unprecedented speed, and the twenty first century that is evolving as an new era of knowledge economy typical of occupation, production and distribution of knowledge resources has come; the adoption of digital measures in dealing with the problems that the earth faces and the utilization of information resources being intensified beyond time and space as much as possible are the motor and technological support of knowledge economy. Therefore, the realization of digital earth will play a very important and unpredictable role in the formation of the main body of knowledge in future.
