| Abstract: | This paper presents a comparative analysis of the anaphoric functions of substitution in English and Chinese and reveals that English substitution is very apparent and has the fixed forms.Chinese does not have the fixed forms and it is used much less widely than that in English.Instead,Chinese has much more use of repetition and ellipsis.The study is of theoretical significance as well as practical value in translation and foreign language teaching and learning. |
