论朱古达战争的性质

前苏联和我国史学界过去把朱古达战争作为罗马史的衬托 ,这种看法有欠公正。朱古达战争的性质 ,初始为努米底亚国内的王朝统一战争。朱古达完成统一后 ,罗马元老院出兵干预 ,继而使朱古达战争演化为争取民族解放和国家独立的战争。朱古达本人并非是个人野心家 ,好战狂人 ,而是一位真正的民族英雄和爱国主义者。

On the Nature of the Jugurtha War

The unjustifiable views held by the historians in former Soviet Union and in China on the Jugurtha War regarded it as an incidental event in the history of Rome Empire. However the war was later for the first time to be defined as one to unify the empire territory within Numidia. When Jugurtha succeeded in unifying his territory, the Roman Senate dispatched troops to interfere. Thus the nature of the war changed. It became a war for liberation of the nation and independence of the country. Jugurtha was not a warlike careerist. He was in fact a national hero and a patriot.
