英汉成语互译过程中的语用失误和相应策略

成语是语言的精华,是文化的结晶,具有鲜明的民族特色。英汉成语各自承载着不同的文化信息,体现不同的文化特色,这使得其在互译时易因不当的转换造成语用失误。本文从英汉成语的特点入手,分析了造成英汉成语互译中语用失误的原因并提出了一定的处理策略。

Pragmatic Failure Occurred in the Process of English and Chinese Idioms' Translation and Relevant Countermeasures

Idioms are the essence of a language and the product of culture.They reflect distinctive features of different nations.English and Chinese idioms carry different culture information and embody different culture characteristics,which tends to bring about pragmatic failure in the process of their translation.This paper explains the reasons of pragmatic failure occurred in idiom translation and provides certain countermeasures through analysing distinguishing features of English and Chinese idioms.
