在空间的各种形式和秩序中,蕴含着各种意识形态、价值取向和权力机制,人们按照社会分配的角色在各自的空间里演绎着人生百态。空间不仅仅具有其物理性质,还被人们赋予了权力、荣耀、地位等人化的社会特征,满足或限制了人们对空间的欲望与追求。美国作家薇拉·凯瑟的作品《保罗事件》中的保罗厌恶自己所处平民街道空间的平庸与阴暗,觊觎上层人物所处空间的奢华与富裕。欲望与现实巨大的情感落差使他逾越了物理空间中自己应处的位置和享受范围,在幻想空间和镜中空间勾勒自己的欲望王国,违背了社会空间秩序应有的规律,最终只能自取灭亡,走上不归路。

Power in Space: Spatial Narrative in Paul's Case

In different forms and orders of space, there exists different ideologies, value orientations and power mecha- nisrm. People live their different lives according to the roles distributed by society. In Paul＇s Case written by American writer Willa Cather, Paul oversteps the location and scope belonged to him in physical space, and draws his kingdom of desire in il- lusion space and mirror space, which violates the law in social space order. Ultimately, he can only conanit suicide.
