论唐君毅的“文化保守主义”

摘    要:伴随现代化发展而产生的文化保守主义,并非中国独有,而是一个广泛、深刻的世界性文化现象。文章集中论述现代新儒家唐君毅痛心中国文化“花果飘零”的情状,以忧患的情感重申文化保守的真义——它来自我们对本身生命所依据的文化本源及其价值的深度自觉,并破斥了跟随时势而起的进步假象。唐君毅的文化保守立场,引来不少批评及反驳,文章对此逐一检讨,阐明唐君毅的主张:道德理性可统摄、补充西方自由和平等观念的不足。

Abstract:As a bi-product of modernization, cultural conservatism is not a Chinese peculiarity but a prevalent and profound cultural phenomenon worldwide. This paper focuses on Modern Neo-Confucian scholar Tang Junyi's lament of the desolation (or in TangOs words, "hua guo piao ling") of Chinese culture. It then discusses his anxious reiteration of the true meaning of cultural conservatism - it is derived from our profound self-consciousness of the cultural root upon which our own existence founded and the value of this cultural root, and his refutation of the illusive "progress" that arises out of circumstances. To finish, the author reviews individually a number of criticisms and arguments made against TangOs cultural conservatism and elaborates on his stance: moral rationality could unify and make up for the western concepts of freedom and equality.
