The Characterization of Saul Bellow's Fiction

Soul Bellow, the 1976 Nobel Prize winner for literature, is well known for his humanistic understanding as well as exquisite analysis of human culture, which are well manifested in his excellent delineation of individual integrity and deep perception of human nature. In his writings, Bellow always takes the individual self as the center of his narration, portraying the concept of “self” through a dialectic variation of narrative unity between the past, present and the other selves. With reference to some modern theories of western philosophy, the present paper explores the characterization of Saul Bellow’s writings as well as his deep understanding of human nature.
