| 摘 要： | 长期以来,学术界认为晚清重臣胡聘之出卖了山西矿权,是历史的罪人。然而,笔者根据最近发现的一份珍贵史料《石艾乙巳御英保矿纪闻》(平定古称石艾)进行分析后认为:胡聘之积极参与了山西的保矿运动且起了重要作用。文章即以此为基本史料,将《纪闻》与其他有关史料相佐证,确定文中反复提到的在山西保矿运动中于幕后起策划、组织作用的"崇儒公"就是1895-1899年间曾任山西巡抚的胡聘之。
