Reflections on Shen Congwei's Giving up of Literary Creation

Shen Congwei terminated his literary creation at the end of 1940's and from then on he had no relationship with it. Admittedly, many reasons accounted for such a phenomenon, but it was mainly because of the closely interwoven factors at that time such as the coercion in political criticism, the restriction of aesthetic judgment and the author's personal love and marriage affairs. They repeatedly tore Shen's life and artistic dream until at last crumbled themcompletely.
