| Abstract: | The winners of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Chemistry are American scientists William S.Knowles(1917-),previously at Monsanto Company,St. Louis,Missouri,USA,K.Barry Sharpless(1941-),the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, USA, and Ryoji Noyori(1938-), Nagoya University, Chikusa, Nagoya, Japan .Their achievements of developing catalytic asymmetric synthesis are chiefly presented.The achievements are of great importance for academic research, for the development of new drugs and materials, and are being used in many industrial syntheses of pharmaceutical products and other biologically active substances. |
