伊文思纪录片《愚公移山》的拍摄起因

伊文思在20世纪70年代受到中国官方的邀请，来到文化大革命中的中国拍摄纪录片，这在当时是一件非常特殊的事件，因为当时中国的大门对西方人是关闭的，这一事件的起因迄今为止没有看到官方的说法，国内外有关这个问题的猜测以及伊文思自己说法各不相同，遂成为了中国纪录片研究中的一个悬案。不过，从伊文思来到中国的具体情况以及中国当时所处的国际国内形势来看，周恩来当年邀请伊文思到中国来拍摄纪录片并不是如同伊文思本人所设想和其他专家所认为的那样，仅与当时中国的无产阶级文化大革命有关，而是有着更为深层的文化和政治经济原因，即当时的中国迫于苏联大兵压境，急切希望与美国修好这样一种国际政治的事实。当然，除了政治上的原因，也不能排除是经济上的困难导致了周恩来希望用一部纪录片来警醒毛泽东，使他能够正视国内濒于崩溃的经济状况。
