《撒克逊劫后英雄略》的文学价值及其影响

英国著名历史小说家司各特之《撒克逊劫后英雄略》在其本国就引起了一定反响,加之翻译家林纾颇有“化腐朽为神奇”的本领,经他“加工”过的《撒克逊劫后英雄略》虽与原作有所出入,有失其“信”,但此作却取得了更高的文学价值,成为我国近代的翻译名著,大大丰富了“译介学”理论的内涵。另外,它在当时的文学界引起很大轰动,对中国文学观念的嬗变也产生了积极的影响。

Literary Value and Influence of Ivanhoe

The novel Ivanhoe written by the famous historical novelist Walter Scott aroused considerable attention when it was published in England.Later it was translated into Chinese,re-entitled literally as The Legend of a Saxon Hero after the War,by Lin Shu,whose miraculous gift of translation made the novel a masterpiece of translated literature in modern China,with higher literary value,though the version itself seemed to have been "unfaithful" to the original in many ways.This has greatly enriched the theory of translation and,furthermore,the sensation caused by the novel in the then Chinese literary circles has contributed a lot to the evolution of Chinese literary concepts.
