A Summary of Duan Chengshi and the Literature of Tang Dynasty

Duan Chengshi,the writer of Youyang Miscellany,was a literary figure who was expert in poetry and literature in the late Tang Dynasty.His poetry covers different fields,which reflects his sincere emotion and wide interests.Some of his poetry was considered to be valuable materials for historical and philosophic study.His parallel proses were rhythmical,ornate,and rich in classical allusions.Besides,his legendary novels about chivalrous swordsmen had a very deep influence on Chinese chivalrous fictions.Youyang Miscellany was known to be the model of literary sketches and earned eternal fame.Duan Chengshi was one of "36 Ti",a title which had cultural meaning with the other two poets Li Shangyin and Wen Tingyun.They three were the leaders in poetry,ci(a kind of Chinese poetry) and literature at that time.
