The existence paradox of modernism shows the absurdity and nonsense of the life choosing in the process of modernization. It shows a kind of existence state and mental state of modem people. Take Anderson＇ representative short story The Triumph of the Egg as an example, this thesis will make a concrete analysis of this existence problem of modernism reflected in Anderson＇ works. It will consider the variation of ＂American Dream＂ under the historical background of American modem industrializtion and the characteristics of the Modernist Literature. It will discuss the human loss and distortion during the American industrialization, as well as the personal choices under the existence paradox of modernism.
