Counseling the Divorced Father
Authors:Edward A Dreyfus
Abstract:Counseling divorced fathers brings with it many special concerns unique to the divorced father. Four phases of counseling with these men are discussed. Phase I deals with the immediate crisis bringing the client into counseling; Phase II examines the various losses and dependency needs; Phase III centers around beliefs, values, and social realities; Phase IV focuses on issues of being an unmarried parent. Each of these phases has its own unique set of issues indigenous to the divorced father. The role of the therapist and several counter transference issues are discussed.
