英汉习语的文化差异及互译策略

语言是文化的载体，习语是语言的精华，具有强烈的文化特色。从地理环境、习俗文化、宗教信仰、历史文化等四个文化侧面入手，探讨英汉习语文化差异的主要根源。英汉习语大致可分为全对应、半对应、非对应三种对应关系，针对这三种对应关系，提出英汉习语翻译的三种主要翻译方法，即直译法、套译法和意译法。并指出英汉习语翻译时应注意的几个问题。

Cultural Differences between English and Chinese Idioms and Translation Strategies

Language is the carrier of culture.The idioms in a language are the quintessence of the language in that they have distinctive cultural connotations.This paper discusses the sources of cultural differences between English and Chinese idioms from four aspects: geographic environment,traditions and customs,religious beliefs and historical culture.The author classifies the relations of the idioms between Chinese and English into three types: equivalence,semi-equivalence and non-equivalence.According to the above three types,the paper proposes three methods in the translation of the idioms of the two languages,namely,literal translation,loan translation and free translation.
