《红字》的清教主义伦理解读

1990年代至今，文学批评界存在着重理论轻文本的现象。文学批评成了从理论到理论的空洞说教，忽视了文学作品的伦理价值和审美价值。作为19世纪美国浪漫主义小说的经典著作之一，《红字》被认为是清教主义伦理观的寓言，我们通过运用文学伦理学的批评方法重读这部美国文学经典，探讨小说所揭示的清教主义道德伦理观，并重构小说女主人公赫斯特·普林在当时的清教伦理环境中的伦理形象，最终可得出原罪-惩罚-救赎是清教主义伦理道德观的最终归宿。

Interpretation on the Puritan Ethnic of The Scarlet Letter

Since 1990s,there has been a tendency of placing more emphasis on theories rather than texts in the literary critical world.Literary criticism has become a theoretical sermon of inanition,with the ethical and aesthetic value of literary works neglected.As one of the American romantic fiction classics in the nineteenth century,The Scarlet Letter is considered as a puritan ethical allegory.With the methodology of ethical literary criticism,this paper tries to reread this American literary classic and discuss the Puritan ethics that this novel reveals,and then reconstruct the heroine Hester·Prynne’s ethical image in that Puritan ethics environment and eventually comes out the conclusion that Puritan ethical morality results in original sin-punishment-redemption.
