Of the hot topics in 2009, building and bridge collapses, due to poor quality, and soaring housing prices were among the most popular. Now, as the New Year approaches, I find myself thinking about Zhaozhou Bridge, the worlds largest and oldest stone-arch bridge, which spans Xianghe River, in Zhaozhou County, Hebei Province. That bridge has lasted more than 1,400 years, and has survived 10 floods, eight wars and many earthquakes.
