Abstract: | When people refer to “evidence‐based” treatment, they mean treatment that has been proven to be effective and has been incorporated into strict protocols via manuals, so they can be replicated. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has been tracking the many treatment models for general substance use disorders, as well as for specific substances. Motivational interviewing (MI), medication‐assisted treatment (MAT), contingency management (CM) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are all evidence‐based modalities, explained Ruben Baler, Ph.D., NIDA health scientist, in an email to ADAW. |
