20世纪50年代以来,美德伦理学成为西方学界的前沿话题。在讨论美德伦理学的过程中,首先,应结合古希腊的思想原典和当代作品来理解"美德"概念的本义及其演变。其次,立足美德伦理学的主流即亚里士多德主义的立场,"美德"不应被理解为一种内在于人的特殊实体,而应被理解为人的基本功能的卓越呈现状态。美德伦理学的主要任务,不在于揭示这种卓越状态的重要性,而在于寻求实现这种状态的理智方案。所以,应侧重"实践智慧"而不是"好品质"的意义上理解"美德",并以此作为美德伦理学的主要研究目标。
