中国近代可以说是一个变动的时代。从千年以上的长时段思考,以共和政体取代帝制为象征的巨变既是全方位的,也是一个持续的过程。相对而言,文化层面的变动更带隐而不显的特征,而"文化"一词的含义也始终没有充分的共识。近代中国文化史的研究,不妨稍宽泛地界定"文化",先对"近代中国"得出整体认识,复以会通的眼光观察具体的点滴履迹,更从细节入手去认识整体,以尽可能展现新旧中西各方面多层次互动的动态图景。

The Interpretation of the Cultural Traces and Evidence in the Changing Era:A simple reflection on cultural history studies in modern China

Modern China may be called a changing era.Cast against the background of the long period of over a millennium,the drastic changes from the imperial system to the republic one are both the entire change in all fields and a continual process of the past.Relatively speaking,changes at the cultural level are more hidden than apparent,and the meaning of the word "culture" has never been well recognized by academics.Therefore,the studies of modern Chinese cultural history may start with a more extensively defined "culture" to acquire a whole cognition of "modern China." Then it could be made more profound by observing and studying the traces and evidence of particular incidents and events with thorough understanding to understand the whole changes from details,so that to fully illustrate the dynamic interactions of all aspects and at all levels in ancient and modern China and the West.
