从隐喻的角度批判英语形象性谚语的意译

英语中的形象性谚语的语义具有隐喻特征，其隐喻义的产生是一个从形象化的字面意义到深层含义的隐喻映射过程，是翻译应予以再现的特征；而否定源语形象化字面意义的意译违背了文化传真的翻译原则，丢失了谚语的文化意象特征，无法重现原谚语的隐喻映射特征，不能让译文读者获得其中的审美体验。因此，意译在形象性谚语的翻译中是失败的，它在其它方面的效用也值得怀疑，需要重新评估。

A Metaphorical Criticism of Liberal Translation of the Imagery English Proverb

A constructive criticism of liberal translation is conducted on the basis of a sample analysis of the imagery English proverb translation in light of both the cognitive metaphorical mapping and the cultural image representation, which reveals that either the cultural image or the metaphorical mapping of the original proverb or both are lost in the liberal Chinese translation. And the liberal translation needs to be further studied and reassessed before it is justified to be a general translation approach, due to its failure to convey both the cultural image and the linguistic features of the imagery English proverbs to the target Chinese lan-guage.
